Kinect Augmented Reality CT Overlay

Wow! This is a really cool application for Kinect using radiology data. Imagine the possibilities of being able to overlay medical image data over a patient. I don't think it will provide any diagnostic benefit, but it is so cool!

I would really love to play with a system like this!

Kinect & Osirix

Check out this video I received. It shows Microsoft kinect being used to control Osirix. It looks like a great product and I expect that we will see a lot more similar interfaces showing up soon.

As they mention in the video the use of hands free controls has major benefits and allows doctors to prevent infection and does not tie them down to a keyboard or mouse.

I hope all the major PACS vendors are looking at this and making their own versions that integrate with their products as I think a lot of doctors are going to start demanding this type of technology for their theaters once they see what is possible.

How to keep Radiologists on their toes

I found this video of a Google engineer who hacked the Nintendo Wii Ballance Board allowing users to "surf" Google Earth.

Apparently the code is Open Source so maybe would could soon see Radiology Wii Balance Boards allowing Radiologists to traverse CT and MR studies by dancing around! Imagine how much could be saved on Gym contracts!

iPhone, the new modality!

Wow! That is all that I can say! I saw this clip on Dr. Dalai's blog and I was blown away by MiMVista. It is a viewer application for the iPhone that allows you to view CT, MRI, etc.
I think this may just be the next killer app for radiology. As they say in the clip, imagine sitting with your patient showing them the images. The iPhone seems to be bringing a whole lot to the table for medical applications. I also liked the concept of the anatomy application that was shown in the first half of the clip.

This looks like an amazing system. Basically I think this is a nice to have system, but the implementation of this system will come with lots of resistance due to the learning process that will be required by users. I do however this that this is a good idea of how we will interact with computers in future.

Wow! I read a lot about the iPone, but this video of it has blown my mind! I hope the device is going to be affordable! I think this will be the biggest gadget for a long time! The other mobile companies have got some catching up to do!
